Fence Construction
Custom wood, composite and chain link fences built from the hole up across Barrie, Springwater, Wasaga Beach and Simcoe County. Gates included.
At McNic HOLES Post, Fence & Deck, we provide professional fence construction services to enhance the privacy, security, and curb appeal of your property. Whether you need a new fence installation, a replacement, or an upgrade, our skilled team is here to deliver high-quality, custom-built fences tailored to your needs.
A fence is only as good as its posts
We came to fence building from post hole digging, not the other way round, and it shows in how we build. The posts go in first, to 42 inches where ground conditions allow, set in high quality concrete, aligned and plumb down the whole run. Everything after that is carpentry on a line that is already true.
That order matters because a fence almost never fails at the boards. It fails when a shallow post lifts through a Simcoe County winter and pulls the rail with it, or when a gate post that was not set deep enough starts to lean and the gate stops latching. Boards you can replace in an afternoon. A post line you cannot.
Our Process
Custom fence design
We work with you to design a fence that suits your property’s aesthetics, purpose, and budget. Whether you’re looking for a traditional wood fence, modern composite, or a durable chain-link option, we offer a wide variety of materials and styles to match your vision.
Site preparation & planning
Our team handles all the necessary planning and preparation, assessing the landscape, and determining the best placement for your fence. We make sure everything is in order before starting construction.
Fence installation
With attention to detail and skilled craftsmanship, we build and install your fence with precision. From digging post holes and setting posts in concrete to attaching rails and boards, we ensure your fence is sturdy, plumb, and built to last.
Gate installation
We also offer custom gate installation, adding convenience and functionality to your fenced area. Whether it’s a standard gate or a custom design, we’ll ensure it fits seamlessly with the rest of your fence.
Fences we build
- Wood privacy fence, board on board, spaced picket or full privacy, in pressure treated or cedar
- Composite fence, for a low maintenance run that keeps its colour
- Chain link, residential and commercial, including dog runs and pool surrounds
- Decorative and semi privacy fence, lattice topped, horizontal board and picket
- Gates, single, double and custom widths, hung on posts set for the load they will carry
We work in wood, composite and chain link. If you want the posts only and your own crew for the boards, that is our post hole digging service.
Before you build, check the by-law
Fence height is set by the municipality, not the province, and it changes across the county. In Barrie, rear and side yard fences are generally capped around 1.8 metres and front yard fences around 1.2 metres under the City’s zoning by-law. Wasaga Beach, Springwater and the rest of Simcoe County each set their own.
Most residential fences at a standard height do not need a building permit. Pool enclosures are the exception and normally do. Corner lots and anything near a sight triangle at a driveway or intersection also have their own rules.
We will tell you what we see on your property, but the final word is your municipality’s, so confirm heights and setbacks with them before we set the line. It is a five minute phone call that saves a very expensive rebuild.
Fence Construction across Simcoe County.
Barrie
Barrie is where most of our fence work is, and it splits neatly in two. The established neighbourhoods want replacement: a 20 year old line where the boards are fine and the posts have gone, or a full rebuild on the same footprint. The new subdivisions on the south and east edges want the first fence on a bare lot, usually with the neighbours on both sides going in the same week. Barrie’s zoning by-law sets the height, so confirm it with the City before we build.
Springwater
Springwater fences tend to be long and rural. Paddock and property line runs around Minesing, Anten Mills, Hillsdale and Phelpston, farm gates wide enough for equipment, and privacy sections close to the house on properties that are otherwise open. Long runs across uneven ground are where setting every post plumb off a proper string line earns its keep, because any lean shows for a hundred feet.
Wasaga Beach
Wasaga Beach fencing is shaped by two things: sand and wind. A tall privacy fence on an open beachfront lot catches a lot of weather off Georgian Bay, and sand holds a post far less firmly than clay does, so depth and a generous concrete collar do the work. Plenty of the properties here are seasonal, so a fence has to stand up to a winter with nobody watching it.
Simcoe County
We build across the county, including Innisfil, Essa, New Tecumseth, Bradford, Collingwood, Orillia, Newmarket, Aurora and Georgina. Residential and commercial both.
Questions, answered.
Wood, composite and chain link, in privacy, semi privacy, decorative and picket styles, plus gates.
Posts go to 42 inches where ground conditions allow, set in high quality concrete, aligned and plumb.
Usually not for a standard height residential fence, but height limits vary by municipality and pool enclosures normally do need a permit. Confirm with your municipality before the line is set.
Yes. Pulling rotted posts and resetting new ones in concrete is a common job, and it is often far cheaper than a full replacement if the boards and rails are still sound.
We can. This season we have up to 15% off all lumber plus free delivery. You are also welcome to supply your own.
For fence post holes, please mark out the desired locations beforehand. Please have lumber on site.
